was founded by John Matkowsky who has had a long reputation
as a fine art black and white printer in Los Angeles for
many renowned photographers such as Maureen Lambray,
Phil Stern, Howard Bingham and Kenny Rogers,
John was mentored by Tom Consilvio, the founder of Silver
Lab, where over the years he learned the finesse of
the fine artistic print while working on the images of Gary
Winograd, William Claxton and Lou Stoumen.
Thoughout the last twenty years, John has had the honor
to print for such diverse photographers as Lucy Lui,
Barbet Schroder and Jim French as well as editions
from the original negatives of Edward S. Curtis
and Stanislav Szukalski, and work for institutions
and agencies like The Getty and The Academy
of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.
After the demise of Silver Lab in 2005, John formed drkrm.
where he continues the tradition of fine art printing. drkrm.
is a black & white lab dedicated to the highest quality
of hand processing and fine printing, serving top photography
professionals as well as the student and hobbyist while
offering personal customer service.
The
drkrm. gallery is an exhibition
space dedicated to fine art and documentary photography,
cutting edge and alternative photographic processes and
the display and survey of popular cultural images.
